Learning in the Woods

Here it is, short and sweet :)

I'm making a horror film.

Meet my lovely movie making buddies-

Ian: Chill, Seattle skater. Mostly sleeps during class, but makes up for it by being a brilliant film maker

Christian: Gamer/Hipster, with an apartment full of light sabers and cats. Composing daunting music for the film

Jonah: Peppy, but an intensely cynical writer who often, affectionately, shares creatives disagreements with Ian. Script writer of course

And last but not least, and without a picture unfortunately...
William: a quite, intellectual film buff who speaks up when he has something really important to say.

Lights, Camera, and Action

Class would be a sad place without my nerdy group of misfits :)

My Film teacher is quite the character. He goes by Tug because he grew up on a tug boat. I absolutely love him.

My psychology teacher was an ivy league Playboy model, so you think she would be cool, right?
Wrong.
She's awful.

Meet some of my closest friends outside of class, or at least the ones I have pictures of-

Callie!
Coffee-loving hipster from South Dakota. Genuine, beautiful, and absolutely wonderful

 Alex!
Callie's boyfriend. Opinionated and hilarious. Can't stay in one place for very long, always traveling. About to start a speakeasy/coffee bar/bakery in South Dakota for the winter.
They're both so great, I never feel like a third wheel.

 Mika!
Bubbly, social butterfly from New Jersey on her way to becoming a nature-loving greener.

We make dinner together in our dorms, drink wine, and chill out together, check out speakeasies, or have a 3 am study sesh at The Reef, or go on other crazy adventures!

Dorm life is not for me, so I escape and go on hikes with a friend to maintain sanity-

McClane Creek Beaver Pond

Nisqually Wildlife Refuge

Dungeness Spit

 followed by the Dungeness Lighthouse

But at the end of the day it's back to...

following a Volkswagen at least.

Evergreen is no doubt the school for me, but the next step is an apartment off campus, possibly a break from school and plenty of traveling!

Love always,
Mel

The plan for a classy, non photobooth picture of us was not meant to be, so as i pass the blog on the Melia, let me introduce you to the wonderful people i have been sleeping with for the past few months.

Emma, the turtle, bread-baker, crafter, and absolutely positively hilarious, beautiful, and genuine person.
Kate, a dazzling down-to-earth, adventurous, stunning, and cool belly-dancing cat,
Caitlin, a delightful, charming sprite, who bakes up a storm, and is the most caring person ever.

Love you all,
Laurel

p.s. I hope to see some of you over Thanksgiving break!

Thursdays

An Ode to Thursdays
The day of least class time and the point in the week where you are so tired of school work that you do everything you can to keep yourself from thinking about that impending Mid-term the next day. Oh Thursday, A day of roommate bonding over mutual laziness. A day with endless possibilities. Today, I made art of naked fat people. I washed dishes. Cleaned. Watched tv shows. Made cinnamon pull-apart bread. Made normal bread. Peeled 7 apples. Made apple pie. Wrote a blog post. Made tea. Made more tea.
Cinnamon pull-apart bread, a joint effort with one of my lovely roommates

tea, pie, bread, craftiness

we are pretty excited about fall

MORE PIE

get it?
I hope to introduce my roommates to you all shortly

P.s. In case you you think I am turning into a hermit, I will tell you about my Halloween. I dressed up and pre-gamed with my sister, then again with her boyf, then went to a crazy house party with 150 people, where i gamed a bit more, and danced to super indie live bands until the early hours of the morning. it was good fun.

a monday

Hello friends.

I am afraid this blog has come to me on a pretty shitty week but I will do my best!

This being a dreaded Monday, I would like to wish all of you a very joyous and learning filled week. I hope your REM cycles have been lightly less interrupted than mine. Drunk friends in your quad in the wee hours of the morning is not the best way to start a week.

As a way of introducing my classes I present to you- Things I think about in my classes

Spanish- "my god. preterite again." and "soooooo tired" also Demi, Tyler, Bria, and I are all in the same class and it feels just like high school.

Environmental Geology- "shitshitshitshitshit" "WHATTHEFUCKISTHIS" "pressure is building up in the Cascadia subduction zone, and when that megathrust earthquake happens (mag. 8-9) we are all going to die, from this or the resulting tsunami""shit." "lunch?"

Exploration and Discovery- "fuckingfuckwadfreud" and again, "SHIT." "dinner?"

Cultural Anthropology- "must. have. coffee." "being trophy wife sounds good about now" also "shiiiiiittttt"

Orchestra- no thinking required here!

Dance- or here!

This doesn't mean I don't like my classes. I am being intellectually challenged. I just fail at studying.

I would love to tell your stories of adventure, of academic prosperity, and of beautiful self growth, but now is not the time. There is more to come.

I love you all,
Laurel
