Thursdays

An Ode to Thursdays
The day of least class time and the point in the week where you are so tired of school work that you do everything you can to keep yourself from thinking about that impending Mid-term the next day. Oh Thursday, A day of roommate bonding over mutual laziness. A day with endless possibilities. Today, I made art of naked fat people. I washed dishes. Cleaned. Watched tv shows. Made cinnamon pull-apart bread. Made normal bread. Peeled 7 apples. Made apple pie. Wrote a blog post. Made tea. Made more tea.
Cinnamon pull-apart bread, a joint effort with one of my lovely roommates

tea, pie, bread, craftiness

we are pretty excited about fall

MORE PIE

get it?
I hope to introduce my roommates to you all shortly

P.s. In case you you think I am turning into a hermit, I will tell you about my Halloween. I dressed up and pre-gamed with my sister, then again with her boyf, then went to a crazy house party with 150 people, where i gamed a bit more, and danced to super indie live bands until the early hours of the morning. it was good fun.

a monday

Hello friends.

I am afraid this blog has come to me on a pretty shitty week but I will do my best!

This being a dreaded Monday, I would like to wish all of you a very joyous and learning filled week. I hope your REM cycles have been lightly less interrupted than mine. Drunk friends in your quad in the wee hours of the morning is not the best way to start a week.

As a way of introducing my classes I present to you- Things I think about in my classes

Spanish- "my god. preterite again." and "soooooo tired" also Demi, Tyler, Bria, and I are all in the same class and it feels just like high school.

Environmental Geology- "shitshitshitshitshit" "WHATTHEFUCKISTHIS" "pressure is building up in the Cascadia subduction zone, and when that megathrust earthquake happens (mag. 8-9) we are all going to die, from this or the resulting tsunami""shit." "lunch?"

Exploration and Discovery- "fuckingfuckwadfreud" and again, "SHIT." "dinner?"

Cultural Anthropology- "must. have. coffee." "being trophy wife sounds good about now" also "shiiiiiittttt"

Orchestra- no thinking required here!

Dance- or here!

This doesn't mean I don't like my classes. I am being intellectually challenged. I just fail at studying.

I would love to tell your stories of adventure, of academic prosperity, and of beautiful self growth, but now is not the time. There is more to come.

I love you all,
Laurel

IMPORTANT BLOG UPDATE!!

Ok, so in the beginning I picked two weeks, because it sounded like it had the number two in it, which is my favourite number. HOWEVER! It has come to my attention (thank you Clara Youtz) that we can get everyone to blog before the semester is out if we start doing one week.

So I hope this is ok with you all, if it totally sucks, let me know, and we can work something out for next term. I'm open to whatever.

Lets try the 1 week thing, and see if it feels better. I have a feeling it's going to work better...

Jacob Glickman, I will pass you the info on Saturday night, and your one week blogging window will begin on Sunday! I hope you have some cool shit to tell us.

Love,
Hannah

Classic Hibbsy.

Hello my little hipster minions! I hope you have all been enjoying my brain child (THCGTC), but mostly I hope that you still feel (at least a little) connected, though we are separated by varying degrees.

I am currently sitting at the train station in Portland, waiting to hop a train to visit home for the weekend. I will get off in Tacoma, be picked up by my father (whom I will embrace, and probably cry on), and then I fully intend to race to Frisko Freeze for a fat cheeseburger, milkshake, and the best fries in the Northwest.

There's no place like home- or like Frisko.

I was intending on taking a 4:20 train, and when I saw the line at the gate, I thought,
"I should ask if this is the right line"
So I asked the gentlemen in front of me, "Excuse me, but is this the line for the 4:20 train?"
To which he replied, very quietly, "Mm? Mmmhmm, yes..."
(The warning bells should have been a little louder, Hannah)
So I stand in line for a good 20 minutes.
And when I get to the point where I show the dude my ticket to get on the train, it
DOESN'T.
EFFING.
WORK.

And he tells me that my train departed a few minutes past.
"Ma'am, go to the ticket station."

Keep in mind, I have already worked myself up to the point where I couldn't sleep last night out of anticipation, and I was having a hard time EATING. Hannah, not eating? WHAT?!  I know! That's how worked up I was! I about puked all over PDX Station.

"But if I sit here and weep, I'll be blown over by the slightest of breeze" Oh, thank you Laura Marling. Your words in my ears keep me sane.

So instead of melting down in a bathroom stall and not getting my shit together, I went to the ticket info dudes, and I met a really wonderful man named Larry G. who very kindly helped me get it together.

And!!! He upgraded me to business class on the next train, FOR FREE! And he told me that usually a train guy goes down the line to make sure people like me don't get screwed over, and no one did this time, and he said he felt bad that no one had done it. Basically, he is a very nice man who realized that I was about to freak the fuck out, and I just wish the best to him. Larry G, you are going to get a very nice email sent to Amtrack about how lovely you are.

Tacoma, I know we have a brief date tonight, and I'm sorry that I'm going to be late, and really I'm just passing through. But I can't wait to be with you, even if it is only for a short window of time.

You're worth it, baby.

UPDATE:
The pick up crew! First things first...

FRISKO FREEZE!!

 It feels so right.

Stuff Is Really Happening

There are three things that I want to hit in this blog post: Laura Marling, Bioblitz, and the general feel of going to college at Lewis and Clark.

Okay, so, the other week I went to see Laura Marling perform at a coffee shop in Portland.
Image

It was absolutely amazing. I talked to her and stood a foot away when she performed. Needless to say, I am madly in love with her. For more on that, check this out. I wrote it for Hear and Now Northwest, which was started by the lovely Clara Youtz.

Now, most of you probably don't know what Bioblitz is. That's okay. You don't need to unless you're into lichen or pseudo scorpions. I'll just tell you about it anyways. It is this biology conference on the Oregon coast. Home base is a cute little house nestled between the ocean and a river, with a lovely forest in between. We spent our time collecting samples, searching for invertebrates, and going on mushroom and lichen hikes. And guess who I went with? Demi Glidden and the Biology Club. (They are releasing their second album, entitled "Lichen or Not," in time for the holidays.)

Lewis and Clark is serving me well. My classes are difficult and reading the Bible can be a drag, but I am getting exactly what I came here for: classes that are something more than just a means to propel me into the next phase of my life, a great group of people (old and new), and gray, rainy days.

My roommates: Olivia, me, Cameron, Faith.

All my love is whirling around the country to you guys,

-Ellie
